The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM), led by Acting Mayor Councillor Maggie Makwala, visited Van Velden Hospital on Christmas Day to celebrate the birth of Christmas babies. At the time of the visit, Baby Kgothatso Mathuma, a baby girl, was the only newborn. However, another mother was in theatre for a caesarean delivery, which will increase the number of Christmas babies born at the hospital to two.

Baby Kgothatso's mother, who resides in Relela Village, Ward 08, was filled with joy as the municipality welcomed her baby with a heartfelt gesture. The delegation, which included Councillor Betty Ramoshaba, handed over a thoughtful hamper containing bathing soap, a blanket, wipes, sanitary pads, a bathing dish, and body cream.

Speaking during the visit, Acting Mayor Maggie Makwala expressed her happiness: "We are thrilled to celebrate the birth of Baby Kgothatso, our Christmas miracle. This year, at least one child was born here at Van Velden Hospital on this special day, and we are happy to honor this moment. These initiatives allow us to show support to our community and share in their joy on such a special occasion.".

Baby Kgothatso's mother shared her appreciation for the visit and gifts: "I would like to thank the municipality for visiting us and for the wonderful presents. I wasn't expecting anything, but the municipality surprised me. I am also grateful to the hospital staff for the excellent service they provided during my stay."
