Councillor Gerson Phetole Molapisane assumed office as the Mayor of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality on November 22, 2021, marking a significant chapter in the governance of Limpopo's second-largest municipality since the establishment of municipalities in 2000. In his inaugural address at the Ivory Tusk Lodge, Mayor Molapisane articulated his commitment to action, succinctly promising to prioritize diligent work above all else.
Personal Life
Born on February 7, 1965, in Relela Village, Mayor Molapisane's upbringing instilled in him a strong sense of community and responsibility. He is a proud member of the Lutheran Church and finds solace and inspiration in its teachings. Outside of his political endeavors, Molapisane cherishes moments with his two daughters and grandchild. His leisure activities include indulging in literature and passionately following soccer, particularly as an avid supporter of Kaizer Chiefs.

Professional Life
For 28 years, Mayor Molapisane dedicated himself to the field of education, shaping young minds and fostering academic excellence. His career commenced at Masopha High School in 1987 before transitioning to Matokane High School in 1990, where he assumed various roles including educator, Head of Department, Deputy Principal, and Principal. Molapisane's expertise lies in History and English, subjects through which he inspired generations of learners. In 2015, he transitioned to the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement, and Traditional Affairs, serving as Chief of Staff in the Office of the MEC until 2016. Subsequently, he assumed the role of Director for Research and Policy Coordination within the same department.
Political Career
Mayor Molapisane's political journey is characterized by steadfast commitment and service to his community. He held successive leadership positions within the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), including Branch Chairperson of the ANC Desmond Mahasha branch and Chairperson of the SADTU Motupa Branch. His tenure as Deputy Secretary of the ANC Markshope subregion and Regional Treasurer of ANC Norman Mashabane Region underscore his dedication to party politics and organizational leadership. In recognition of his contributions, Molapisane was elected to the Provincial Executive Committee of SALGA Limpopo Province in February 2022, where he currently chairs the Provincial Working Group on Community Development and Social Cohesion.
