329 LENYENYE RESIDENTS FINALLY GET THEIR HOMES – ON PAPER AND IN HEART

LENYENYE – It was a day of dancing, ululations, and even a few happy tears at the Lenyenye Community Hall on Tuesday as 329 residents of Extensions 3, 4, 5 and 6 finally received something that had been a long time coming: official title deeds to their homes.

The handover, led by Acting Mayor Councillor Thabo Maunatlala, was not just about documents, but about restoring dignity and giving families proof that the homes they’ve built memories in truly belong to them.

“These are not just pieces of paper,” said Maunatlala, delivering a Keynote address. “They are a return of justice, pride, and economic power to our people. Now you have something to leave for your children — not just walls, but wealth.”

Among the recipients were Ward 31 Councillor Caiphus Mabitsele, whose ward includes Lenyenye, and Steve Mafokwane, a well-known politician and community leader.

The ceremony was attended by key municipal leaders, including Speaker Sannie Tiba, who chaired the programme, Chief Whip Given Malatji, members of the Executive Committee, and the Planning and Economic Development Portfolio Committee..

Residents cheered, waved their papers in the air, and some even joked about putting their deeds in picture frames before furniture.
