TOPANAMA VILLAGE CELEBRATES START OF R16 MILLION ROAD PROJECT
By Vutivi Makhubele Today, residents of Topanama Village gathered to celebrate the official handover of a contractor who will upgrade Topanama Village main Street from gravel to a paved surface. This handover marked the beginning of the long-awaited R16.5 million infrastructure project aimed at easing access to Serurubele Secondary School, especially during rainy seasons. The ceremony took place at Headman Sekokota’s residence. .
“This project will enhance not only our roads but also access to education and community wellbeing,” Ramothwala stated. Ward 16 Councillor Collen Stoltz added that poor road conditions have hindered learners and teachers from reaching the school, which affects enrollment and learning opportunities.
The project, expected to be completed in six months, will be carried out by Zevofusion Construction under the supervision of Hlayeleni Consulting Engineers. The scope includes paving 1.3 kilometers length of road with 6.2 meters width, installing stormwater channels, sidewalks(350 meters long and 0.5 meter wide), culverts, gabion retaining walls, a cul-de-sac, speed humps, and comprehensive road signage.
In related news, the site handover for the Thapane Paving Project has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, with a new date to be announced soon.
