NEWLY ELECTED SAYC LOCAL PREPARES FOR ROAD AHEAD
The newly elected local leadership of the South African Youth Council (SAYC) in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality has commenced their term by undergoing an induction aimed at preparing them for the challenges ahead. During the induction, the new council received presentations on Integrated Development Planning (IDP), National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), local economic development, and public participation.
The Chairperson of SAYC, Jack Mawasha, has reiterated the council's role in addressing the challenges that young people in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality face, regardless of their political affiliation, gender, or religious denomination. He emphasized that the Council faces an enormous task of addressing issues such as unemployment, poverty, and inequality. He further stated that all these problems can be addressed if people work collectively, particularly the youth.
Mawasha also stated that as the leadership of SAYC, they will strongly advocate for empowerment, employment, development, and business opportunities. Mawasha says that he believes that the SAYC can play a vital role in creating a conducive environment for the youth to thrive and reach their full potential.
The council comprises of Jack Mawasha as the Chairperson, deputized by Emmanuel Makgapeetsa. Tumelo Nkwane is the Secretary, deputized by Joe Seabela, with Tebogo Mawasha serving as the Treasurer of the Council. The additional members include Refentse Malaola, Boitumelo Mokgatla, Shibutiso Mabunda, Ntsako Mathebula, and Machacka Maponya, who are all committed to working towards the betterment of the youth in the GTM.
Various sectors are represented in SAYC. These sectors are agriculture, business forum, disability, education, health and social development, sports, arts, and culture. The council members have expressed their commitment to working with all stakeholders in these sectors to create a more conducive environment for youth development.
In addition, SAYC Local maintains a presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. The SAYC is committed to working with all stakeholders to tackle challenges and create opportunities for young people in the GTM. They believe that youth empowerment is essential for the development of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality and the country as a whole.
