MEET THE NEW LEADERSHIP OF SAMWU IN THE GREATER TZANEEN MUNUCIPALITY

The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality has ushered in a new era of leadership following the election of shop stewards at a mass meeting held at the Tzaneen Public Swimming Pool on 26 September 2024. The elections marked a important moment for the union, with a mix of continuity and fresh perspectives as most of the existing leadership was retained, while three new members joined the 10-member committee.

Moses Malatji (Civil Engineering ) was re-elected as Chairperson, while Solomon Zimbili (Electrical Engineering) retained his position as Deputy Chairperson. Victor Manyama (Community Services), takes the helm as Secretary, replacing Peter Modike who is now SAMWU Regional Secretary. Manyama is tasked with overseeing the administrative functions and ensuring effective communication within the union.

Additional members of the committee include Mankutu Mangena(main building), Peter Modike(main building), Cate Nkuna (Community Services), Alex Maake(Community Services), Andrew Moore (Electrical Engineering),Patrick Mokwena(Civil Engineering ), and Thlakisi Maphalle (Community Services), The new committee is poised to lead SAMWU's efforts in Greater Tzaneen Municipality for the next five years, with their term set to conclude in 2029. Their mandate includes addressing workplace challenges, negotiating better conditions for workers, and fostering unity among municipal employees.
