MAYOR REACHES OUT TO FAMILY AFFECTED BY HOUSE FIRE

3 July 2026
Greater Tzaneen Municipality Mayor, Cllr Odas Ngobeni, today officially switched on the Burgersdorp Extension Electrification Project. Speaking during the switch-on ceremony, Mayor Ngobeni highlighted the importance of electrification in promoting safer and more sustainable communities. "Many dangerous incidents occur in the absence of adequate lighting. It is therefore important that the residents of Burgersdorp Extension finally have access to electricity and the dignity, safety and opportunities that come with it," said Mayor Ngobeni.

Mayor Cllr Odas Ngobeni fulfilled a promise made during a mayoral imbizo by visiting the Chabalala family in Mokgwathi Village, Ward 02, today, on Friday. The mayor pledged to visit the family after learning during the 30 June 2026 imbizo that their house had been destroyed by fire two weeks earlier. During the visit, he assured the family that the municipality would deploy a team to assist with repairing the damaged house. Food parcels and blankets were also donated to provide immediate relief.

"We didn't even know where to start. Thank you for coming to our rescue and for the assistance you are going to provide to my family," said Mr Chabalala. Mayor Ngobeni later visited the Nkwinika family, where he handed over a brand-new wheelchair to Phillemon Nkwinika, improving his mobility and quality of life.
