IT TOOK A VILLAGE TO BURRY A CHILD

The community of Nkowankowa came together today to lay to rest Faniky Mabunda, a young man born in December 1994, who sadly passed away on April 20, 2025, following a prolonged illness. Faniky, who was orphaned and survived only by his sister, Rejoice Mabunda, is believed to have also faced challenges related to substance abuse, which may have contributed to his declining health.

Recognizing the family's dire circumstances, the Mayor’s Office of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality took swift action to ensure Faniky received a dignified burial. The funeral service was held at Rhema Christian Church in Nkowankowa. Wisani Burial Services generously covered all burial costs, offering a heartfelt and compassionate send-off for the young man.

The Municipality extends its sincere gratitude to all individuals and organizations who contributed to the funeral arrangements. This includes Ward 21 Councillor Sophie Matiana, Ward Committee member Amukelani Mageza, Pastor Mkoki, the Mayor’s Office led by Cassius Machimana, and the residents of Nkowankowa who supported the Mabunda family during this difficult time.

As Rejoice Mabunda continues to face financial hardship, members of the public who wish to support her are encouraged to reach out to the Mayor’s Office or Ward Councillor using the following contact details: 015 307 8007 / 072 200 2320
