GTM AWARDS BEST IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY COMPETITION

Today (19 April 2024), the Greater Tzaneen Municipality announced the GTM 2024 Energy Efficiency School Competition winners. The competition involved various schools from 10 circuits in Mopani West District situated within the boundaries of the GTM. Phogolo Senyolo from Stanely Mopai High School won the contest and received a laptop, an inverter, and LED lights to be fitted in her school.

The second position went to Junior Rachemula from Xibukulwana High School in the Xihoko Circuit. Junior took home a laptop and an inverter and also won LED lights to be installed in his school. Survive Mhangwana from Magoza High School in the Nkowankowa Circuit took position 3 along with a laptop and LED lights to be installed in his school. Councillor Conny Ramothwala, the Head of infrastructure, said, "As we applaud the winners and commend all participants for their exemplary efforts, let us also recognize the broader impact of this competition. Beyond the accolades and prizes, it has sparked awareness and action, inspiring others to join the movement towards a more sustainable world."

Ramothwala concluded her speech by inviting the community to join the energy efficiency bandwagon. "I urge everyone here to continue championing energy efficiency in their daily lives and communities. Together, let us harness the power of knowledge, innovation, and collaboration to build a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable future for generations to come," Said Ramothwala

Position 4 went to Kamogelo Phaladi from Khesethwane High School in the Mawa Circuit. Kamogelo received a tablet. All ten participants received branded school bags. It was also announced that participants from positions 3 to 10 will each get a power bank.

Limpopo Department of Education Mopani West District Director Phillipine Modika challenged the Greater Tzaneen Municipality to go beyond the prizes shared and fund the winners' tertiary education. Mopani West District is the top-performing education district in Limpopo. Modika promised to stay in the top spot for as long as possible.

Participants produced a video and a chart demonstrating the importance of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable practices. They were assessed on creativity, relevance, visual and emotional impact on the audience, quality of communication, and overall effectiveness.
