The Greater Tzaneen Library Services run a popular competition, in all four languages mostly spoken in the area, for school children every year. The aim of the competition is to make children aware of the libraries and to inspire them to visit the libraries.
This year’s competition asked the children to “Write down an interesting or unusual idiom or saying about an African animal”. Wonderful, unusual idioms and sayings were submitted. Entries were received in Sepedi; Afrikaans; English and Xitsonga and were judged on originality.
Library staff members recently visited schools to hand out prizes and certificates to the winning entrants. This gave the Library staff an opportunity to talk about books and reading to the assembled school children.
Attached are pictures of proud winners and their teachers and/or the library staff from Rita Primary, Thapane Primary, Glenshiel Primary and Haenertsburg Primary schools.
